Affordable, low-key cafe raises flatbread's profile

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Oliver and Jessica Kiely have taken their bundle of bread knowledge from Atlanta Bread Company and flattened it. OK, let me explain.

They both worked in managerial positions at the bread company for a number of years until they recently opened their own franchise, Sandella's at The Shoppes at Susquehanna Marketplace. The franchise focuses on fresh, healthful and, yes, flatbread, which is used throughout the menu to make paninis, grilled flatbread pizzas, quesadillas and rice bowls.

After perusing the high-end shops, grab lunch (or light dinner, same menu) at this affordable if not outright cheap cafe. (There's nothing priced over $6.)

Sandella's Flatbread Cafe Expands To Chicago

Entrepreneurs to bring three units of fast-casual flatbread restaurant concept to Chicago.

-- Chain Leader, 7/13/2009 5:11:00 PM

PRESS RELEASE: West Redding, CT, July 13, 2009 -Entrepreneurs David Gile and Ankit Jhaveri have signed a franchise deal with Sandella's Flatbread Café to bring three new restaurants to the Chicago market. The franchisees plan to open their first location by the end of 2009.

Gile and Jhaveri are researching potential sites throughout downtown Chicago for their first location. The franchisees are interested in tapping into the downtown business district of Chicago known as "The Loop." Gile, an MBA graduate of Harvard Business School, and Jhaveri were first introduced while managing all aspects of a large Dell fulfillment facility shipping over $13B worth of equipment each year with over 1,000 employees.

"We were very impressed by the growth rate of Sandella's Flatbread. New stores are successfully popping up all over the country and also in the Middle East to great reviews, and we are confident we'll be just as successful in Chicago," says Jhaveri. "Chicago is cold eight months of the year and people want a healthy option that's hearty, warm and delicious! Sandella's low calorie, no trans-fat flatbreads offer exactly that - with a burst of flavor, taste, and quality gourmet ingredients."
